Should the kitten/cat be diagnosed with HCM, documentation with detail from a board-certified veterinary cardiologist with all applicable tests and diagnostics must be delivered to Southernbell within five (5) business days. In the event of death of the kitten/cat within the guarantee period, a necropsy report and all applicable tests and diagnostics from a licensed veterinarian or equivalent confirming the death was directly caused by a life-threatening congenital defect or HCM must be delivered to Southernbell within five (5) business days of receipt of necropsy completion. SouthernBell must be given permission by the Purchaser to contact and obtain records for the Kitten/Cat from the diagnosing veterinarians. Notification of this permission and information release must be made to the diagnosing veterinarians by the Purchaser within Two (2) days of diagnosis. SouthernBell assumes no liability for or responsibility for cost of any veterinary care or for reimbursement or indemnification of any medical costs or treatment of the Kitten/Cat or necropsy costs, if applicable, after Purchaser takes possession of the Kitten/Cat, these costs being the sole responsibility of the Purchaser. Failure of the Purchaser to comply with any condition or term as set forth herein will be considered a material breach of this Contract and will void any warranty or guarantee. SouthernBell reserves the right to offer or refuse to offer a replacement Kitten/Cat to Purchaser under the same terms as the previously described Kitten/Cat or refund to the Purchaser the purchase price minus the non-refundable deposit of Five-Hundred and 00/100 dollars ($500) to satisfy the Congenital Defect and HCM Guarantee.

Why are Adoption fees for Kittens so High and why are deposits required?

Most people do not understand Adoption Fee pricing. Southernbell believes it is important for every prospective adopter to understand what goes into ensuring the highest quality and healthies babies possible. Here is a quick rundown of Adoption Fee pricing considerations.

Startup costs are astronomical!!!

Purchasing a breeding Queen/King can range from $4,000 and up per cat. You will have to purchase a male and female at minimum. It is almost unheard of for feline breeders to allow for stud services. There is never a guarantee that the breeding animals will ever be able to produce babies.

Most males and females must be kept separately to ensure overbreeding does not occur. So, rooms/areas must be constructed for males, females, moms with kittens, ect. This includes home items such as higher electric costs, heating and cooling, water costs, ect.

Genetic and Health Testing costs for parents averages $1500-$4000 for each cat. Standard veterinary care that ranges from $500-$2000 per year.

Registrations for Kings/Queens and subsequent babies can range from $100 per cat and up.

Pet insurance often runs approximately $50 per King/Queen.

Supplies to raise breeding Queens/Kings: Perishable items such as food, supplements, grooming items, medications, litter (typically ranging from $250-$600 per month. Non-Perishable items like litter boxes, toys, cat trees, pet beds, scratching posts, water fountains, ect (this pricing can be from $2000 and up). Remember! Non-perishables will need to be replaced due to wear at regular intervals!

When the first litter may come from a pregnant Momma at minimum of year and 3 months later......Reproductive care for mom and x-rays can range from $200-$650. Possible reverse progesterone testing can be from $75-$250. A possible C-Section can range from $1500-$4000. And most c-sections result in the parent being spayed and the need to repurchase a new Queen. Delivery items for kittens includes scales, gloves, thermometers, heating pads, delivery box, sanitizer, suction bulbs, cleaning supplies, formula, feeding supplies, blankets, pet carriers and the list goes on and on....averages about $2000. Vet care for those cute little babies, vaccines, deworming, spay/neuter, microchipping, and other health care can range from $250-$1000 per kitten (assuming the kittens are healthy).

Now to raise those beautiful bundles of joy! Food, litter, cleaning supplies, toys have just doubled in price from $200-$650 dollars to $400-$1200 per month!

Now to find the babies a home! Letting the world know the babies are available for adoption is a must! Cost for computer/laptops/and printers. Websites, business cards, promotions, registration with Cat Fanciers, paperwork, attorneys and fees, ect can cost from $1000 to around $4000.

Cat Fancier Competitions to show cats includes entry fees, supplies to present the pet, hotels, transportation can cost from $2000 and up.

Now for the costs that can be explained in monetary terms. Breeder must be available 24/7 around the clock from about 2 weeks before the Mom's due date until around 8 weeks after those babies are born. Availability is needed to help with delivery and care of the kittens. Tube feeding or bottle feeding kittens must be done every 2/3 hours if mom can't produce enough milk. Mom and babies may have to be rushed to the vet (or emergency vet if after hours or on weekends). Breeders must clean up after those babies, ensure they are safe (and believe me, kittens can manage to get into ALOT). Breeders are responsible for feeding and providing clean water these babies and adults every day and night. It may sound simple, but keeping food and water in actual bowls with rambunctious babies around is no easy task! Grooming must be done for these babies and the adults that includes regular baths, ear cleanings, nail trims, ect. Availability is a must to give medications, if needed, on time to a whole bunch of babies that are not going to be happy about taking them. Breeders must schedule and transport babies and adults to the veterinarian. Taking pictures, facetime or use social messaging to keep Adoptive parents up to speed on their growth and development is a requirement. Schedule for home visits for the babies if the parents request it and ensure no germs are transferred is also a necessity. There is just so much more to list.

For breeders, there is no vacation, no holidays for visiting with family and friends. There are no last minute trips or get togethers, without scheduling an experienced "kitty sitter". Kings/Queens or babies can have emergencies, go into labor, or get the sniffless and need the breeder at any time along with the day to day care. Breeders are home at our cat's side caring, cleaning, socializing them. It is a no breaks allowed commitment. It takes years of experience to gain the knowledge to provide appropriate husbandry for a laboring and birthing Queen and her kittens. Good breeders sink their entire soul and sanity into these creatures. This is why breeders always laugh when someone says, "You must make so much money from adopting out these babies, and you get to play with kittens all day!" We laugh, because most breeders never see a profit or very little profit, most breeders are exhausted, most breeders question what they are doing every day, most breeders hate making those tough choices and the fear of losing a baby, King, or Queen, most breeders worry that their babies may not go to the very best home, most breeders homes are absolute looney bins and constant chaos. I am not telling you this for sympathy or pity. This is just the reality for a good breeder. It is work of the heart.

When you choose an ethical, good breeder, you don't ONLY pay for the kitten, but you are also offsetting the cost of producing that quality kitten. The cost of producing that quality kitten includes the tools and necessary items and supplies needed to properly raise that kitten, the knowledge, training, and experience of the breeder, the love, time, and sacrifices of that breeder, and for the peace of mind you receive and the investment that breeder has made to ensure that kitten is produced with the best possible health that can be attained.

Non-refundable reservation deposits are required to bind the adoption contract and jdue to the additional time, effort, and cost required to find another appropriate home for that kitten. Reservation deposits ensure the kitten is not made available to any other person. Should a reserved kitten not be picked up on it's "Go Home" date, that kitten has to be made available again for adoption. This means the baby may have to stay with the breeder for a longer time. This also prevents an adopter from having the opportunity to make payments.
